Polyp biopsy

Hi,

On June 24th, I was told that I had prostate cancer (Gleason 3+4=7 in 3 out of 12 sites).

My MRI scan also showed that I had a bowel polyp which was removed on July 7th.

I have decided to opt for radiotherapy to treat my condition. However, I've been told that my treatment won't start until I have had the result of my polyp biopsy.

Sadly, this isn't forthcoming.

I have been advised that with my Gleason score then I shouldn't be too worried, still, I am worrying.

Should I worry?

If there is anything nasty about the polyp, they may well want to treat that first - it could be more urgent.

A diagnosis of prostate cancer does sometimes turn up other things, such as bladder or kidney cancer on the MRI scans. Those will almost always be treated first, because in comparison, prostate cancer is usually much slower growing and can wait.

Do you know what your prostate cancer treatment will be? Again, that could be influenced by any bowel treatment needed first.

Here's hoping you had a benign polyp.

Hi,

I've opted for radiotherapy.

My bowel polyp was removed almost two months ago.

Is that normal?

There are different types of RT given singly or in combination. You should ask about the possibilities if these have not already been discussed. It is also likely that you will be started on a form of HT which be then be joined by RT and extend beyoud the number of fractions given..

Unfortunately, there are often long waits between the various stages from initial examination to finally getting treatment. Even after treatment most men await with trepedation the results of their 3, 4 or whatever monthly check ups, so the waiting does require patience.
