Swelling and pain in the prostate area after Robotic Surgery

May I ask everyone, how long did the swelling and pain in the prostate area last after surgery before it subsided? It has been 4 weeks since my surgery, and the swelling and pain in the prostate area have not shown any signs of improvement. Does this indicate that there might be a problem?

Watcha hoolik,

I had RARP in Nov 23. It was a good 12-14 weeks before I was completely pain free. I'm still slightly swollen on my right pubic area. No pain.
You've just had major surgery. Your body is wondering what the flipping hell has just happened. Sit back & take it easy for a few months, and let things start to heal and knit together again.
What you are experiencing appears to be quite normal, from my experience, & also confirmed by other blokes I've spoken to who have had RARP. Good luck.

Hello mate and welcome to the forum.

I had robotic surgery and it was many weeks before all pains and swelling had gone. Despite only being in hospital for a overnight stay, you must remember, its still a major op. Like all treatments, recovery from surgery will vary enormously from patient to patient.

Thank you for your reply. I understand that the recovery process varies from person to person. That's precisely why I want to learn more about the approximate recovery time of different individuals as a reference. Currently, my prostate area is still swollen and painful after 4 weeks without showing signs of improvement. Generally, even if the pain hasn't completely subsided, it should gradually lessen over time. I'm concerned that there might be other factors, such as wound infection or unknown causes, contributing to the issue.

I'm 20 weeks post surgery now and still have pain to the right of the belly button. CT scan booked for 25th September to see if they can figure out what it is. For some reason the right hand side has always been more sore than the left, ever since waking up from surgery.

Same here Neil regarding the right hand side being more sore than the left hand side. I had no pain whatsoever on the left side after surgery. None. My prostate was removed on the right side, so maybe that's the reason,(?).

The right side of my pubic area is still a tiny bit puffy, but no pain at all. I'm lead to believe it will always be that way. I massage the area every morning for 2 minutes whilst showering. I had RARP in Nov '23.

Good luck & fingers crossed for your CT scan. 🤞
