Stop and start symptoms

I haven’t been here for a while. My husband had a RP 5 years ago and has been ok since with undetected PSA levels. However my 37 year old son is worrying me a little.

He complained of feeling like he needed a wee all the time, including during the night. When he went very little came out. Red flag to me so I questioned him further.

Hes had this before about a month ago for a week and then it disappeared and all was normal again. Last week he had it again for a few days and now it’s all gone back to normal and he’s not wanting to go all the time and when he does it’s a good flow.

This is  confusing me. I would  have thought that once a tumour was pressing on the urethra it would be there all the time not stopping to return to normal?

Hi Littlewren,

I have no medical training whatsoever, but is it possible that he has an enlarged prostate (Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia - BPH), rather than a tumour?  Alternatively, is it possible that he has a temporary urinary tract infection which is causing inflammation/irritation to the bladder, leading to the sensation of wanting to urinate?  Is it possible that he is eating or drinking something new which is causing irritation or inflammation to the bladder?

It might be a good idea to see a GP to have screening for a urinary tract infection, and if this is negative, to explore other possibilities at that point.

Best wishes,

JedSee.

Yes, sounds like a UTI to me.

Repeated UTIs in men is often caused by not fully emptying, which can be caused by enlarged prostate, although he's a bit young for that. In lorry drivers, it's often caused by over-large bladder (> 1 litre).

He’s sent a urine sample to the doctor. He had it again yesterday,in the day and twice at night. Yet it’s not constant throughout the day. Maybe a few times he will go, not do much and the want to go again 5 minutes. At other times during the same day he can pee normally.

It’s odd but I suppose I am hyper sensitive. I am hoping a tumour would not cause a weak flow and frequent trips one minute and the very next trip a normal wee.
