Waiting for biopsy results..

Greetings.

So, had a TP biopsy last Friday. Was advised it would be 4-6 weeks before I got the results.

It seems a very long time to me - any thoughts?

I've seen people on here anxious when told it'd be a couple of weeks!

Does seem a long time. I've had two biopsies. For both it took about 2 weeks before I got the results. Our site states:

'It can take up to two weeks to get the results of the biopsy, but it can take longer in some hospitals.'

I was told the results would take 4 weeks as they had to be discussed in the multidisciplinary team meeting. The result had to be given in person at a consultation not over the phone.

Sure enough I was given an appt exactly 4 weeks after the biopsy to be given the results.

Well, it turned out to be just under 4 weeks, which in fairness seemed to go reasonably quickly. For some reason I expected a 'no cancer was found' but it was Gleason 3+4=7 so I've decided on surgery. So much helpful information on here - many thanks.

Hi Brent

You'll be treading a well worn treatment pathway which has turned out to be pretty beneficial for many of us.

Let us know if you need any further information.

It’s good you’ve made your decision and you’ll hopefully feel better for it. You can now concentrate on getting yourself in the best physical state you can before the Op….and get doing these pelvic floor exercise!

Good luck with your treatment and keep us posted.

5.58 PSA?

Mine was 26. But then my prostate was 127cc rather than the average about 35cc. So my PSA was going to be 3.5 higher than normal anyway.

I had a 1.5% prostate volume tumor contained within the capsule of the prostate. I went private and had it taken out within 6 weeks of bio results. That was my decision.

Waiting for results is horrible. I've just had my Y3 PSA and all I've heard while waiting is the Chris Hoy news. You're getting something positive done. That's what you concentrate on.

I think they were surprised at how quickly I made my decision. The consultant suggested I talk to Oncology at a different hospital first, but said an appointment could be several weeks away, then I'd have the 4-6 weeks wait for surgery. I didn't see any point in that. The Macmillan nurse went through the options again but the thought of hormone therapy for however long, then multiple trips over a month to a hospital that's miles from where I live and the side effects of radiotherapy just didn't appeal. For me the sooner the surgery the sooner I begin the path to recovery and back to normal. I know we all have different views, but yes, I feel great about my treatment decision. I forgot to ask for a copy of the biopsy report at my appointment but an email to the urology secretaries and they sent it to me. It's all been very joined-up so far.
