2 year update.

Good afternoon friends.

Just a quick update, had my robotic prostatectomy on the 17 of October 2022 at the age of 68.

I am very satisfied with my choice of surgery over the the other treatment options offered, I was continent from the day of catheter removal all but a few drops on over exertion, E D was a problem but at 68 years old at surgery I was always aware that there could be issues in that department, getting there with the help of tablets.

Just today received my 2 year post surgery psa results from gp website. <0.1 which is great ( anxiety doesn’t get any better waiting for those results).

I think the anxiety is made worse by my post histology results, although my Gleason score post surgery was downgraded to 3+3=6 from my biopsy score of 3+4=7 the fact I had a focal positive margin & what they reported as early extra prostatic extension always makes it a possible chance of re occurrence.

Tommorrow morning I await my specialist nurses phone call & just wondering if I will stay on 6 monthly psa checks or go to 12 monthly, I have heard different nhs areas use different criteria, any ideas on that guys ?

Anyway good luck to you all . Jeff.

Sorry Jeff, I can't help with the frequency of further PSA checks, but thanks for sharing your good news. 👍

I was 66 years old when I had robotic surgery in Feb 2023. My Gleason was raised from 8 (3+5) to 9 (4+5) T3a with EPE but luckily negative margins. Post op, I've been having PSA checks every 3 months which have all been undetectable (<0.02). I'm due a 21 month test soon.

I realise that my high Gleason, and capsule breach, are factors that significantly increase the risk of recurrence.

As much as I try not to, I always stress at PSA test times. I'm wondering whether, if I'm all clear after two years, they'll put me on 6 month or even annual checks.

Just got a call from my N H S nurse, ( in Wakefield) she said that from my next blood test which will be in 6 months that they will not make an appointment to ring me, they will just check my bloods & send out a letter confirming psa results.

Adrian. I know the anxiety involved in psa testing but I suppose it’s just a matter of keeping on the front foot regarding reoccurrence, personally I am happy with the 6 monthly checks.

Good luck everyone.

Jeff.
