I play in a brass band and wonder if any others on this site play brass instruments and how long it took them to return to playing after surgery?

Hi,

The only instrument I've blown is a recorder and I'd think that would be alright.  But a trumpet?

Your stomach wound will make more noise than your instrument if you upset it.  The hidden wound on your bladder might be silently weeping.

The stomach wound is a good barometer for your condition, in my opinion.  You might test it when it begins to look healed and take it from there.    But I'd think around 3 months unless you can play gently.

All the best, Peter

Following  my RARP I was told six weeks before playing due to internal healing needed as Pelvic floor and bladder are linked.  This corresponds to what I found on a US forum. Back just in time for our Brass Band Christmas concert.  Decided it was best to adhere to the advice and no nasty reactions.  Occasionally need a trip to the loo mid way through practice if a lot of high notes to play!!@

Dental or jaw surgery often affects embouchure and might take several weeks or even a few months before you can safely play again.

Three years post RARP, and I still can't blow my own trumpet on my bedroom performance. 😁
