Pre-Operative Assessment

Hi,

After making the decision to go down the prostatectomy route, I contacted my consultant’s secretary and have been listed for surgery.

When I asked the current list times she said it would be about 6 weeks if I was happy to have any surgeon or slightly longer if I wanted to go with my consultant. I opted to go with my consultant as he is the lead for my area and trains others in the use of the DaVinci robot, so figured he must be pretty good!

Anyway, my question is, how long in general is it from the PreOp assessment to having the surgery? I have a PreOp on 8th November…

Waiting times will vary between different trusts and hospitals. I attended a clinic where I saw the lead surgeon and a consultant oncologist to gather information on what path I should/would take. On the day, I decided on surgery and the surgeon gave me a date 6 weeks ahead. The pre-op assessment was within that timescale. The clinic was in St Albans; the op was performed at the Lister in Stevenage.

Best of luck,

Peter

Hi Morty, I had a pre op three weeks ago, a health and wellness clinic this week and I have been told I am pencilled in for December. All in all it will be about 10 weeks for me from my pre- op. The nurse at the clinic this week said the pre- op is good for three months.

Good luck

Paul

The nurse I had said because of my age and general level of fitness the pre-op would be valid for 6 months! Although he did say that because of the type of surgery I’m having it will be a lot less. I’m going to stick with the surgeon’s secretary estimate of mid-December!

My pre-op was originally carried out 4 weeks before surgery was booked but I ended up with a cancellation and it ended up being 2 weeks after the pre-op

Good luck with it all

Dave
