Radiology declined Oncologist's request

I posted a few weeks ago that my husband's oncologist had requested a PSMA scan which they declined stating that as he was not for surgery or RT (had both) that a PSMA scan should not be used as a guide to starting HT.

So oncologist requested an urgent MRI of pelvis. We've waited about 3wks and still no appointment so I rang the radiology department to be told no MRI booked as they were waiting on further response from Oncologist.

After contacting Secretary and CNS they said they'd discuss with oncologist.

I have just learnt that husband is now to have CT instead.

I'm baffled by the clout radiology have and the waiting is added stress and worry . Plus if I didn't chase it up we'd still be sat wondering.

Lexi , lets for the moment assume OH cannot have PSMA or possible SABR to a limited number of hot spots. At what point would they start HT. When I was at his stage a few years ago they were going to wait for a significant rise before starting HT ,2.4 or even 10 was mentioned. Sometimes the next treatment may be triggered by velocity, doubling time within three months seems to be one such trigger.

Not sure how practical or if even possible if you could get treatment in England,it seems elective treatment would have to be sanctioned by the MDT at his home hospital in Scotland.

Thanks Chris

Thanks Chris. Guess we need to get the CT and go from there. Appointment with Oncologist is 5wks today so hopefully scan performed and reported before then.
