Following on from my last post, January 2023 saw a rise in my PSA to 0.07. I was referred to Southampton for a PSMA PET scan which I had February 2023 and that showed an uptake in the prostate bed, left presacral area and right 5th rib.

I started in February with a Decapeptyl injection and early March with Apalutamide. By July my PSA had dropped to <0.01.  Decapeptyl injections every 3 months and my PSA has very thankfully stayed at <0.01, my last test was the end of October 2024. Long may this continue.

I am pleased that your treatment is going so well Freddy. I just have a couple of questions if that is OK. I had read that a PSMA pet scan was not normally thought to be effective until your PSA was at least .2 or even higher but I see you were offered one at .07 and that they were able to identify hotspots. Also could you provide your Gleason score at diagnosis?  There is so much conflicting information. BCR is recognised at .2 but it seems now that treatment is being offered at much lower PSA scores after surgery.

Hi, yes my PSA was slowly rising and got to 0.07 when I went to Southampton for the scan. Gleason was 9 before op.

Hi Freddy.

Thanks for your update mate. I've read your previous posts and see that for the year after your op your PSA levels rose from 0.01 to 0.02 to 0.04. You say the first result was deemed undetectable so was it preceded by a less than arrow?

I'm 21 months post op and have had 3 monthly follow up PSA checks by two laboratories. One measures down to 0.02, the other to 0.04. Fortunately, too date, the results have all been undetectable and all carried < arrows.

As much as I try not to worry, I dread recurrence.

I'm sorry to see that your op didn't nip it in the bud but very pleased that your current treatment appears to have tamed the beast.

As you say, long may it continue. 👍

All the best mate.
