Obtaining data on individual urological surgeons.

BAUS used to publish data on individual urological surgeons. Including how long they'd done the job, how many ops they'd done and how successful they were. It was a sort of surgical TrustAtrader.com. 🙂

Two years ago, I used the data base to pick my surgeon. However, I think, they've now stopped publishing this information.

Other than asking them for an honest self appraisal, how do you now get that data?

I’ve looked at BAUS and nowhere do they give individual surgeon stats.

In fact, I can’t find any stats anywhere online for UK urological surgeons. This area is really lacking.

It seems a programme called NHS Choices was supposed to provide all of this data.

I get the feeling that the NHS wants you to go with your designated surgeon. I’m not saying that they won’t allow you to change or pick your own choice of surgeon, but there is little available to base any decision on.

It seems ridiculous that you can get loads of information and reviews on prospective tradesman. Yet you can't find out anything about someone who's potentially got your life in their hands.

I think the BAUS data was self reported by the surgeon, so it was an self appraisal. I don't know why they took it down.
