Post RT late urinary side effects - fluctuate?

User

Hi All.

Quick question.  I had prostate RT in April 23.  In June 24, my urinary side effects flared up & remained at that level until mid-October when they eased back.  Now, in the last few days, they appear to have flared back up again.

Has anyone who has had a late urinary flareup experienced fluctuations in the severity of the symptoms?

Many thanks.

Billy

Mike ,Andy has suggested possible radiation cystitis, I had severe radiation cystitis but neither urology or radiology recognised the symptoms. Don't get fobbed off.

Thanks Chris

Have you got checked for a UTI while it's flared up?  An easy check for your GP nurse to do.

It could be a stricture and/or radiation cystitis. I think you need to ask for a referral back to urology.

Yes thank you , I am back at urology for their help, have been measuring and recording urine volume, which in a way seems to have helped .

Also have added Tamsulosin to my ever increasing list of drugs following a eye stroke .

It's a combination of frequent peeing - including at night, burning when peeing, weak flow, slow to start, stop/start & urgency.  Been fortunate to avoid incontinence & only once failed to reach the loo in time. At its worst, the frequency has been the biggest issue - have to plan being away from home & the broken nights...

Thanks Andy.

Yeah, my GP checked for a UTI back in July. I suppose another check may be in order.

My oncologist did refer me to a urologist & I'm waiting to see him a second time following the tests that he ordered.

The easing of symptoms pretty much coincided with these tests & I had hoped to be able to tell him that was still the case.  But, as I said, they seem to have flared up again a few days ago.

I've read various scientific papers online which indicate that late urinary side effects can occur after RT (e.g. after a year, as in my case) and that they then tend to ease off, usually over a period of months.  But I haven't read anything that suggested they could ease off and then flare up again.

No doubt my urologist will be able to address this, but I just wondered if anyone on the forum has had experience of this...
