How long has anyone been on Zoladex with Mets.

How long can Zoladex work for.  I know everyone is different but I read it does not work for long 2 years max.  If you have mets and had success with Zoladex would be good to hear your story

Iā€™m on Decapeptyl which is essentially the same. My Onco told me the mean efficacy is 3 to 5 years. But remember this is an average taken over millions of patients. Some poor souls may get 6 months , and others 10 years. Keep the faith šŸ‘

I got told the same as Chris. I asked because I had just passed my two year anniversary.

Then you have the legendary George H who doesn't post much anymore on here who is coming up to 20 years on and off with hormone holidays.

Thank you, so much, really nervous awaiting latest psa as last time the psa was the same, first time it had not fallen since chemo and HT.  Did your Uncles friend have mets?  Really appreciate your reply.  I am 83 now but still so scary.

I don’t know if he had mets, I’m sorry.

I presented with a PSA of 252, the bone scan and whole body scan were clear but they suspect micro metastatic disease, so I’ve been on Decapeptyl for three years and my PSA is now less than 0.1 . I’m not getting another jab in March when it’s due because the Oncologist wants to know if the cancer is being suppressed or has gone.

Another example is a man who my late mother knew. He presented with  PSA of 1500 and extensive mets but he’s still alive 12 years later.

The Oncologist refers to him as the miracle man!
It gives me hope though.

Your very kind, Silly old fool but the fact it did not drop last PSA in August, really worried  me as it had dropped every time since chemo ended in Sept. 2022.  I pray you get good news and thank you for caring.

On the balance of probability, you still have a good many years to go.

I've been on decapeptyl for just 3 months so far, since early sept 24, plus 4 weeks bicalutamide from late August.  I'm expecting radiotherapy early in the new year, aimed at prostate and pelvic lymph nodes, 2 of which showed up on a PSMA PET scan last summer.

My PSA just before the first bicalutamide tablet was 7.   I bought a private PSA test in mid October, result 1.58.  Nicely down but it should go lower, I thought.  I bought another in mid October, result 1.82.  Oh dear, going up.  The NHS tested my PSA in late November, result 2.3.  Does this mean I'm one of those poor souls mentioned by Chris J, for whom treatments like Decapeptyl or Zoladex work only for months rather than years?

If not, what else does it mean?

I don't believe I have a urine infection & anyway it wouldn't explain a steady rise in PSA.

My PSA didn’t go down until after radiotherapy.

Look at my profile.

I had Zoladex for 3 years 2009-2012 and radiotherapy in 2010. All was good until PSA started to increase and reached 2.4 ng/ml in January 2018 which was seen as a biochemical recurrence.  PSA continued to rise and I restarted on Zoladex in May 2021 and PSMA PET CT scan showed metastasis to periaortic lymph nodes.

By April 2023 metastatic disease was discovered in my bladder wall and I had an operation to remove the tumour.

I am on Zoladex for life (I am 84) and enzalutamide was added to my therapy in August 2023 which is keeping my PSA in check at 0.41 ng/ml.

The point I'm trying to make is that there seems to be no limit to Zoladex ADT therapy.
