Bleeding in Sperm

User

Last year had blood in sperm , which lasted three months . Scanned testicle , which came back with a concern .
Three more scans over a period of 6 months no concerns duo to no change
October this year blood in sperm reappeared , still on going in December .
PSA score low 0.6 , prostrate enlarged on cytology but no rectal examination of prostrate performed .
Hospital do not seem concerned but should I go back to the GP to explain my concerns on the blood reoccurring ?

Have you had any scans of your prostate and seminal vesicles to check for cancer or any other obvious cause?

Prostate cancer can cause blood in semen - one US hospital reported that 14% of cases of blood in semen referred to them were due to prostate cancer, so it's not a direct correlation.

Most often, the cause of blood in semen is never found, but in the process, all potentially serious causes are ruled out. High blood pressure may be the most common cause.

No scans of prostrate or seminal vessel , PSA test , which was 0.6 and cystoscopy which showed an enlarged prostrate on both sides .

Hi Ted.

Welcome to the forum.

Apparently the posh name for it haematospermia. It appears that the cause is rarely anything serious.

You might find this link useful:

Good luck mate.👍

Hi All , still on going but now frequently changing colour each time from brown blood to a pinkish colour . Also the amount of sperm seems to have reduced more a watery pink liquid that seeps out . This is a full week apart . Going to phone the GP tomorrow .Wondering if I should go private as the anxiety is beginning to creep up?

Hi again Ted.

Contact your GP mate, and take it from there.

Paying for private treatment may be unnecessary and only add to your anxiety.

Let's hope that the NHS resolve the problem.

Hi Ted .

I have also had blood in the semen for nearly 4 months . Today i still have it but it was dark red and very watery . I have had a rectal examination of my prostate and they have said it is slightly enlarged but that is normal for my age  , a PSA blood test which came back with a reading of 1.7 . I have had a Cystoscopy which the Urologist said looks fine . A CT scan and Ultrasound but i am getting no answers to what is causing it . I went back to my Doctor last week and she said try not to worry about it . She gave me antibiotics 2 weeks ago [ a four week course  ] just in case i have Epydimititis. I feel no better and the blood is worse , like i said dark red and watery . I am now getting concerned because its not right .

Hi Kevgar

reading your post , looks as though you have had a good examination and very unlikely to be a serious cause . Good that you are getting checked out .
It’s very scary though .
was your ultrasound on the prostrate or testes?

for me the blood in the semen last time was very much lighter but still pinkish .
I saw the GP and he has taken bloods , results next week . Hospital follow up in feb .
I am hoping that it’s a blood vessel that keeps bursting and is not healing .

Hi Ted

The Ultrasound was on my testis . The problem I have is that when I ejaculated and had the dark red blood my testicles really hurt and my back and hips are really painful . I am still in pain and like I said this has been going on too long with no answers . I am starting to think it’s something serious because of the pain element

Hi Kevgar

Oh ok . Could be an infection , would wait a couple of weeks to see if antibiotics kick in , if not then I would go back to the GP expressing your concerns and asking for MRI scan of prostrate and back and hip .
