Chemo finished now waiting for CT scan

Hi my hubby completed chemo in December his final dose restricted due to liver levels. He’s not yet feeling better or having less pain.

His history diagnosed in July with psa 10.5 mri and ct showed prostate cancer and spread to pelvic bone and pubic bone stage 4 Gleason 4+4 on 3 monthly decapeptyl injections which have reduced his psa to undetectable. Although having been diagnosed with such a low psa we don’t really rate this marker.

Just received appointment date in Feb for a CT scan with contrast of Thorax abdomen and pelvis.

Feeling scared again. Had lots of hopes for family holidays this year but wondering if we should wait until the result comes through.

Hi,

I'm sorry to hear that your husband is still suffering.

I cannot help or advise on whether it would be best to wait for the CT scan results before making travel arrangements. I just wanted to bump the conversation,  as I know there are others on here in a similar predicament, that may be able to assist.

I agree that PSA levels aren't always a good indicator. Mine was only 6, but I was Gleason 9 (4+5)

I hope his scan results are favourable.

Bigs hugs to you both.

Thank you Adrian I hope you are ok. I think I was just reaching out as just seeing the letter for a scan brings it all back. My hubby coped with the chemo ok but he’s still having bone pain also ache on lower stomach is persisting. It’s comforting he’s not alone with his original psa. I’m tempted to not book the big holidays until we have result of scan. Thank you 🙏

We exchanged messages on your other post.  At the time your husband was half way through chemo…. just as I was starting and I found your post really helpful.  Thank you.  Sorry to hear of the complications you’ve experienced.  I was warned at the start this chemo was “accumulative” and it’s certainly getting more challenging each dose.  Interested about the next stage for you with the CT scan.  Is that to assess the extent of the bone spread and is the next stage for you radiotherapy?

All I can do is to wish everyone going through this the best of luck…and keep thinking about and planning these family holidays!

Hello Tony

Nice to hear from you and I hope your chemo is going well. Each infusion is a step towards finishing treatment. My husband coped well with the infusions. The first 5 days being the hardest on his body fatigue. Just when he started feeling well again the next infusion was due. I think you are right about the accumulation. The CT scan is to see where is now post treatment. His PSA as with many others on this forum was quite low so it didn’t ever reflect the severity of his cancer. We think the CT scan is to see where he is and possibly assess the possibility of radiotherapy reducing the discomfort he has sitting which is related to the bone cancer in his pelvis. His liver bloods showed he couldn’t have a full infusion on his final session so perhaps that will also be looked at. He also had a small nodule on his lung. He’s 3 weeks past the end of chemo and his pain is slightly better so let’s hope things continue to improve.

Best wishes to you during your treatment.
