Hi,

Three years ago I had a PSA, it was high - 55, I wish I had spoken to counsellers at the time.  I wasn't prepared mentally for the tests and because my psa was I high I overreacted.  The Prostate Cancer was confined and I was told it was cureative .  I was put on hormone treatment and had radiotherapy at Leeds in autumn 2022.

Three years on after treatment, I'm off hormone therapy and my PSA is 0.02.

There is light at the end of the tunnel.  If I could go back in time I would have got help because it did cause me alot of mental health problems.  I would say to all men get checked but keep calm and carry on.

Hi Nick

It's good to see somebody come on here and post a good news story. I hope your PSA remains that low forever 👍

Ian.

Hi Nick,

That's a great result and I hope it stays that way.

You make an excellent point about counselling. We go through a huge ordeal fighting this disease and some of us struggle with the fallout.

I got through diagnosis and surgery without any real problems but I quickly started to feel flat, there was no euphoria once the cancer was gone, and within a couple of months I realised that something wasn't right. In the end I went for counselling, only four sessions but it helped me accept things and move on. In hindsight, I should have done it sooner.

Cheers,

Kev.

Depression can have nasty effects - glad you found a route through it.

I wasn't prepared for the effect on me mentally, even though it was cureative.  Luckily there is great help available here.

I know feeling, but things settle down.  All the best, Nick

Great results Nick, long May it continue.

i suffered dreadful anxiety after starting HT(was coping before). It’s a known side effect so I asked my GP to prescribe sertraline for me and it has made a huge difference. I’m not sure whether counselling would have worked for me as it was caused by the drug, but I don’t regret to resorting to an anti-depressant to help me through this ordeal.
