Creatine with hormone treatment

Hello all,

Year ago thrombosis appeared, when they were studying the causes something appeared about the prostate, and with all the examinations and biopsies etc., they gave me the bad news, it was worse than I expected, a very aggressive cancer level 5, the highest level, and with metastases to the lymph nodes (pelvis). Will be a 3 year treatment with hormones + radiation etc, side effects will not be good.....
So my question is, since I'm on blood thinners and hormone treatments (testosterone is out), can I take creatine?
I have pain in my legs and muscles all over my body almost every day and have been tired for the past 2 months but all the test blood etc all went well except I had low B12. (just started taking B12 vitamins)

So my son asked me to take creatine to get some fitness and energy, but can I take that during hormone treatment?

Thank you,

Marcos

Hi Marcos.

the short answer is that you can- I did. A number of claims are made for creatine and I can't comment authoritatively on them, though I concluded that there was the possibility of some benefit, and little downside. My main objective was to slow the loss of muscle mass which goes with the reduction in testosterone caused by the hormone therapy.

Creatine in itself isn't a magic bullet. As I understand it, it works in the context of  muscle repair so it needs to be seen as part of an exercise regime which pushes you hard enough to generate a bit of muscle rejuvenation. And actually it's the exercise regime which is probably the more important bit.

You are obviously in a lot of discomfort, so you will need to be careful in putting together a plan for yourself ( or even get some advice) , but plenty on here will attest to the value of keeping active with a mixture of simple cardio and resistance exercise.

Best of luck

Ron
