Worryingly high PSA

User

Hi all

Interested in views and experiences as I am currently terribly worried

  • In 2018 PSA of 3.5 following the passing of a kidney stone and subsequently down to 3.2 with a clear MRi scan
  • In 2019 PSA raised to 5.75 which culminated a clear scan no 2 and clear biopsy. At the time specialist suggested another test in 6 months  time with no action if PSA <10.
  • Unfortunately due to Covid and generally putting it off I did nothing until recently
  • Jan 2025 DRE normal although PSA now 13 an increase of 7.25 in 5 years
  • Last passing of a significant kidney stone was May 2024
  • age now 60

The whole journey put me through an incredible amount of stress with a resultant irrational fear/anxiety of tests and medical professionals  (for which I am getting help with).

I would rather not go through this again  hence would appreciate any experiences others may have had

Thanks

Tony

Hi Tony,

sorry you find yourself here, but you’ve come to the right place for help and support.
Presumably you’re now on a cancer pathway? You’ll have lots of tests, scans and biopsies, and it’s not easy but just try and keep some normality in your life, keep yourself busy and be kind to yourself.

this is the hardest time for you…the waiting and not knowing what’s ahead, but once you know what’s what and a treatment plan is in place I am sure you will feel better.

Good luck,

Derek

You need to go through the diagnostic process. Your PSA doubling time is five years. If you have got cancer, I doubt it is aggressive. I know people on Active Surveillance with higher PSA than you have. Any urinary tract problems such as kidney stones could be raising your PSA.

Thanks Dave, Derek

reassuring that I have guys likes you to share experiences with .

I’m feeling very disappointed with myself in having left it so long but I did so on the basis that I’d been on a 2yr roller coaster ride in 2018-2019 with 24 biopsy samples being negative so never got to the bottom as to why my PSA was high then at 5.75

Hopefully the scan and biopsy will be positive. If you are diagnosed it is still possible low Gleason and AS. You kind of did your own AS neglect with monitoring your PSA. If AS is offered due to a diagnosis, don’t do that again. Best of luck

By being full of negatives. 🙂

I never understood post prostatectomy positive and negative margins, until someone clearly explained negative margins are positive and positive margins are negative. Simples.
