Frightened Anxious Worried

Hi all this is my history

Was seen  privately in 2020 after a  raised PSA Had a suspicious lesion on MRI but negative biopsy Last letter in April 2020 suggested should follow up but I foolishly didn’t take responsibility which is very much keeping me awake at night with worry

PSa in October 2020 was 7.27 previously PSA tested in Jan 2020 9.7, Feb 2020 6.8

Did have  GP check in Dec 2023 which was 11 in Dec 2023 and then 11.4 May 2024

At that point GP Spoke to NHS urologists, who appeared happy with PSA trend, keep up with annual monitoring will refer you if your level goes >15.;

Then seen in A&E 30th December 2024 blood in urine, fever/chils, pelvic pain ; concurrent URTI ; diagnosed likely prostatitis given 4wks ciprofloxacin just finished

So then got appointment with previous private consultant 16th Jan 2025

He noted last PSA reading back in October 2020 was 7.27 and couple of PSA checks done since then which have steadily risen, with the

level on  last test in May 2024 11.4. He regarded as a significant increase over that time

recent symptoms in December visible blood in the urine which was associated with some low back and hip pain, and some slight stinging on passing urine and some cloudy urine urine sample sent on 29th December 2024 confirmed an eColi urine infection

Examined my prostate now feels nodular which is a change from 2020.

Said the concern is prostate cancer, given the rise in my PSA and my prostate contour.

So ultrasound scan of kidneys and bladder results done 94ml but broadly reassuring MRI is 6th Feb scan and then a biopsy and cystoscopy now scheduled. Consultant did say if something has developed over the last few years it is quite likely to remain contained to the prostate and should be treatable and that we will get the tests done so that we can determine what we are dealing with and come up with a plan of action

But back and side pain has got worse and really upset with myself tearful and anxious regards possible spread and my lack of  requesting regular checks costing me dearly really welcome feedback

Hi PCS,

sorry to hear this. Diagnosis is really stressful but you'll know more once you've completed the tests and have results of the biopsy.

I went through something similar in 2013, I was discharged by urology and given a letter advising me to have regular PSA tests. I got on with my life and didn't follow up, then in 2019 I was diagnosed with prostate cancer. But more importantly, I'm still here after surgery and radiotherapy.

Good luck.

Kev.

Hello mate.

I'm sorry that you have concerns which have caused you to join us, but welcome to the forum.

I'm not medically trained, but it appears that for a 4/5 year period that you've had a fluctuating PSA levels and appear to have been diagnosed with other prostate conditions that can affect PSA levels. I think that your recent checks show a gradual rise and are worthy of further investigation. The MRI will show any suspicious areas, if there are any, then the biopsy will show what they are. It's quite possible that your urinary problems are not related to prostate problems.

All you can do mate, is take one step at a time and try not get ahead of yourself.

Please keep us updated and best of luck with any future results. 👍
