Joining the 1 in 8 Club

Hi Everyone

I have reluctantly joined the 1 in 8 club ,I am 66 years of age and was diagnosed in November with Prostate Cancer at stage 3a with a Gleason score of 8.

I had additional scans which did not show any spread of the cancer and was offered surgery or RT .I opted for The Robotic Prostectomy which was carried out at Solihull Hospital on the 25th Jan by Dr Patel .I saw the Dr briefly after surgery where he advised that everything had gone OK .

Almost 2 weeks post surgery I feel good ,working on my physical health through a healthy diet and plent of walks.

I am also working on my mental Health ,trying to stay positive and maintain my good sense of humour which I am fortunate to possess.

Finding this site has been a real boost ,reading the different stories has been reassuring and inspirational.

i intend to post regularly so that others may benefit from my experiences as I will benefit from theirs.

To end on a humorous note ,At my catheter removal clinic ,I shared the waiting room with 5 others,I was desperate to be the first to Pee ,after about an hour I asked the others to wish me luck and I set off for the Loo ,The mission was a success and I wrote my name on the sample and placed it back in the box .When I returned to the waiting room one of the other guys set off for the Loo,on his return someone asked if he had remembered to write his name on the sample bottle ,what bottle he replied,I just peed down the toilet 😂😂

Onward and Upward (hopefully anyway)

John

Hi John.

Welcome to the forum and thanks for posting, it will help others.

You seem to have have have had a very similar journey to me. I was Gleason 8(3+5) with a T3a staging and had robotic surgery. Post op histology upped me to Gleason 9(4+5).

You seem to be making a strong recovery and I hope that your post op results are good.

It's great that you've managed to retain a great sense of humour. I also like to try and see the brightside and my gallows sense of humour has helped me cope in difficult times.

Best of luck, mate and please keep us updated.👍

Hi John and welcome.  That's excellent about the guy forgetting his sample  :-D

Fingers crossed the surgery did the job for you.  It's great that you're getting out, keeping fit and staying positive.  Way back in 2019 when I was originally diagnosed, my consultant gave me a piece of advice which really stuck with me.  He said:  "Don't make your life all about the cancer, remember to do the things you enjoy too."

All the best, and keep us posted on how you're doing.
