Should I change chemo?

So. Just seen my oncologist. It seems that although my PSA is decreasing, the cancer in the liver has increased. He thinks that whilst the chemo has attacked the PSA-emitting cells there are other cancer cells which are not emitting PSA and the chemo may not be working on those. As a result I'm not having chemo today. I'm having yet another blood test to look at a specific cell group. It is likely that I will have to change to another chemo chemicals - ETOPOSIDE and CARBOPLATIN. If I do go onto these the new regime will be to have them for 3 consecutive days every 3 weeks, which probably means I will have to stay in hospital for 2 nights.

I have to say that this news has hit me hard. I really thought the current chemo was working. Now I suddenly feel very tired and very ill. I know this is just a reaction to the news but I feel like crying. Really don't know what to do. Any input welcome.

Dear Tim

During my husbands 5 years of treatments, we had many moments like this. The shock will settle and you ll get used to the news.

My advice at this point would be to ring the PCUK nurses to talk about your specific situation.

And, don't give up hope. Easier said than done but we are all with you.

Good Luck

Mrs MAS
