Bone scan worries

User

Hi, I received the results of my biopsy yesterday and it's positive, not unexpected. The initial analysis of the MRI was that the cancer hasn't spread from the prostate.

Understandably concerned I was remaining positive about treatment & outcome but having been told I need a bone scan before any treatment is put in place has freaked me out.

How more worried should I be?

Hi James,

Welcome to the club nobody wants to join! But you’ve come to a GOOD place.

Yes, it’s pretty scary isn’t it, but console yourself that this is pretty standard  procedure JUST to make sure. I had one and thankfully it was clear, but I’d rather have known if it wasn’t so that I could have the right treatment.

Youre at the worst stage at the moment going through all the tests and waiting for results. it does get easier when a treatment plan is in place. Just keep yourself as busy and active as possible and do lots of things that make you happy, and give yourself lots of treats. it won’t stop you worrying but will help you get through it. If you're struggling to cope, seek out support, there’s plenty out there from places like Maggies, or even phone the Specialist Nurses on here.

Good luck on your ‘journey’,

Derek

Thanks Derek,

Thought I was coping pretty well up to now! I'm sure you're right, get the tests out of the way and move on.

I appreciate the reply 😊

Hi James.

Welcome to the forum, mate.

Your bone scan is probably just precautionary. If you feel happy to, it might be an idea to put a few details regarding your PSA levels, Gleason score and cancer staging on your bio. This way, if you continue posting on here, it makes it easy for others to pass comment.

Please keep us updated and good luck.👍

Hi Adrian,

Thanks, the hospital rang to discuss the results yesterday, not knowing what to ask I absorbed limited information.

I'll speak to them today and ask a few more questions.
