Bleeding When Becoming Erect

I had an Aquablation on 10th February. My catheter was removed on afternoon of 14th.

I passed urine twice with no trace of blood between removal and bedtime.

During my sleep I was awoken three times by a sharp pain in the head of my penis when becoming erect. A not insignificant amount of blood left the entrance to my urethra.

The out of hours Urology doctor said that was because my urethra had been protected by the catheter. Now it had been removed, blood going to me penis was causing me to bleed but the urethra would heal.

The next night and all subsequent nights to date, when I start to become erect in my sleep, a sharp pain in the head of my penis wakes me up and a tiny amount of blood seeps out. The pain stops me becoming fully erect.

Has anybody else experienced anything like this? Can anybody offer any advice? I am worried my urethra has become damaged.

Thanks in advance,

Keith

Keith, I get a pain in the head of the penis from time to time but suspect it is my suprapubic catheter irritating the bladder. Pain transmission in the water works is a possibility.

I had my urethra punctured during a dilatation, as urine leaked into the soft tissue the penis got very painful and the penis swelled up.  Unfortunately the pain was too great to make use of the swelling.

Hope you get sorted soon.

Thanks Chris

Chris,

Many thanks for your reply. How did you confirm your urethra had been punctured and how was the situation resolved?

Best wishes,

Keith, during a dilatation under general anesthetic something went wrong . They had to abort the procedure because there was to much blood to see what they were doing. When they brought me round they then had to fit a suprapubic catheter because I was in retention. I went home with the SPC and told to close the valve after a couple of days and urinate normally.

During the first urination it was slightly painful and I got  a slight swelling. The pain and swelling got progressively worse with each urination. When I got through to the hospital I was told to turn the valve back on and " it sounds like we punctured the urethra". I kept the using the SPC in for a month the urethra healed on its own. I had another dilatation and finished up with a SPC and a urethral catheter for another few weeks.

The dilatations were to stretch the scar tissue created by the robotic assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP).

While I had both catheters in I also had bright red blood and clots coming past the catheter and hanging out of the penis. That resulted in a 4 day hospital stay, they did one flush but just left it to heal. The temperature dropped and I went home.

Thanks Chris
