I am trying to find an NHS hospital where I could be offered Retzius RALP surgery but not finding it easy. My local hospital is Northampton but they dont do it so looking for any help please. Perhaps someone on here could say where they had theirs done? Thanks in advance.

Milton , it would probably be worth investigating and comparing the short and long term outcomes of Retzius and standard RARP.

Thanks Chris.

Lister is also the only hospital which offers Neurosafe/Frozen Sections on the NHS (outside of a trial), a method of doing nerve sparing more safely.

(Some others may start offering Histolog Scanner soon which does the same thing by a different method.)

I think UCLH has at least one surgeon (PS) doing Retzius Sparing.

It has to be said that many of the Retzius sparing surgeons retired from the NHS over the last few years.

Retzius Sparing gives return to continence faster (sometimes immediate) than retropubic [standard] RALP.

However, 12 months later (and for the most part, 6 months later) the results are the same as retrobubic RALP patients catch up.

Also Retzius Sparing is generally done by more experienced surgeons.

"Some studies have found higher rates of positive surgical margins after this procedure, but these results have not always been statistically significant

Large tumors may be more challenging to treat with this technique"

Thanks Chris

If you Google search UK hospitals that do this type of surgery. You'll get a list of those that do.

UCLH, Guys London Bridge and Royal Marsden. It’s more surgeon specific I found.
