Hi all,
My continuing journey..
Not new here just posted once in panic, like I am sure a few others have.
Bit of a long post, but if it helps to answer anybody’s questions or worry’s then it’s worth it.
Started back in November 2023, when I took part in a voluntary screening program. Had a Blood test and thought nothing of it, as had no symptoms.
Then one late December evening had a call to say I had been referred to the Hospital for further test as PSA was at 4.1
So off I trotted to the hospital on the 3rd Jan 24 , and had another test which came back at 4.5. I was put on the ‘Two Week Wait Pathway, where the next step should be more than 2 weeks.
True to this I was then booked for an MRI on the 16th Jan, and the obligatory “Finger” Feel. The consultant told me then he 95% sure it was Cancer.
31st Jan Was in for the extremely painful biopsy,
15th Feb, went for the results of the biopsy and it was confirmed.
From the letter I received..
“2-week wait referral for PSA of 4.5 ng/ml.MRI prostate-41 cc prostate, PI-RADS 5 nodule in the right PZ.
Transperineal prostate biopsy-right prostatic adenocarcinoma, global Gleason score 7(4+3), grade group 3, involving 6 out of 20 cores. Gleason 4 form 70%. Focal cribriform pattern and perineural invasion. Longest tumour area 19 mm and in right posterior quadrant.
MDT-CT staging, all options, preferably surgery.”
29th Feb Bone scan, came back negative
8th March, went in to Hospital for a radical prostatectomy. Came out the day after complete with wee bag.. All was going well had the catheter removed 10 days later, an had no issue’s with leakage, or controlling my bowels.
30th April Follow up appointment, From the letter, not want I wanted to hear..
“The final histology showed quite significant disease, unfortunately. The grade group was 3 on a scale from 1 through 5. There was cancer throughout the prostate and it extended through the capsule. There were also some unusual patterns called cribriform pattern and focal central necrosis. The chance of needing more treatment is higher than normal. This would normally be radiotherapy sometimes combined with hormonal therapy.
Relevant Hx: Prostatectomy on 08/03/2024
Daily Update: CAPRA-s score 5 (Gleason 4+3 with extensive extraprostatic extension, cribriform pattern, surgical margin positive)”
8th May first PSA after surgery 0.159, Referred to Oncology where they said we will just keep an eye on it, and have a PSA test every 12 weeks
31st July PSA 0.171 , Was then sent for a PET scan, which thankfully came back clear…….
2nd December PSA .203, at this point I had a Telephone appointment with Oncology, and was told I would more than likely need further treatment, Had an appointment 13th Jan and have a another PSA prior to this. To see how much it went up in 6 weeks.
13th Jan PSA 0.235, Went to Hospital and signed all the forms for 33 treatments of Radiotherapy.
Had the radiotherapy planning scan on the 1st Feb, then Radiotherapy started on the 13th
Now 12 treatments in, no real side effects, just tiredness, more from the lack of sleep from getting 2 or 3 times a night for a wee, as have to drink lots of water.
Will update as I progress.
Thanks
