Hi BL

I had the same experience at around 3 months post op. Was leaking like a sieve, so I gave up on the idea.

I am now 7months post op and have just started again. Still leaking a fair bit whilst running, but not as badly as the first time I tried. I'm hoping it will improve. For now I'm restricted to the treadmill, but it would be great to get back out in the open!

Ian.

Thanks for that. I guess time is the healer…

Hi there, I had RALP surgery in August of last year and, at first, found it difficult to do two things at once - walk/run or pee. I'd been doing Parkruns and up to marathons for many years so found this a pain. But, your right, time and consistent Kegel exercises did pay off and I do full on training every week with a group and still do my Parkrun. I'm looking to test myself on a 10k later. I still dribble a bit on the way round but nothing serious to worry about.

My times aren't what they were but that's age not anything else. Above all, it's great to get out.

Good Luck

Hi I am 2 weeks post RARP surgery and itching to get back to some form of exercise. I was hoping to start swimming at 4 weeks and back into running at 6 weeks, but reading the posts on this chat 2 months or even 3 sound more the norm for running. The surgery went well and other than the odd uncontrolled dribble the side effects seem manageable. Did anyone’s continence suffer when running, just trying to prepare myself for when I start? Thanks

I had RP in February last year. All straightforward.

And my experience on getting back to a regular exercise routine was a source of much frustration. I felt physically fine at 3-4 weeks, was walking some distance, and felt absolutely ready to go running. The surgeon told me, very directly, that it would be deeply unwise. The internal trauma following the op needs time to recover and pressure from running or weights could damage the recovering tissue. 3 months rest, and start running on softer surfaces e.g. treadmills or grass. Avoid paving.

I know others on this forum have started sooner but I did reluctantly wait out the the 3 months. Light running, increasing to regular 3-5 miles in months 4-5. Swimming from month 3., sit ups and weights from months 5-6.

The only noticeable change was occasional dribbling when running on hard surfaces, still get that now from time to time. Otherwise back to normal.

Good luck..

Thanks for replying and I feel your frustration but great to hear you are over it. Like you 3 weeks post surgery I am feeling physically well and generally feel I could do more. But will heed advice and take return to training slowly. They say the ‘comeback is greater than the setback’.
