My positive story

I have prostate cancer and nerve cancer (it spread beyond the prostate)

I was due to have the op but as the cancer had spread the decision to switch to hormone therapy and radiotherapy was made.

Started HT in August, gained 4kgs body rejected the HT, different HT in October (the hospital said the side effects can be extreme when having 2 different types, but we have no choice) ok, so I go for it, again my body doesn't absorb the HT, in Nov/Dec they give me an accelerant/blocker ADT.

Late Dec the HT was working so I was scheduled for 25 sessions of wide beam radiotherapy.

Week 2 into radiotherapy and I was having a rough time in the bathroom

Week 3 it improved, week 4 and 5 ok

I'm now 2 weeks post radiotherapy, everything is fine, I'm still playing pádel tennis, I can run around the court no issue, I'm cycling 50kms three times a week, working in the garden.

I'm getting a little more tired quicker than before and I siesta for 2-2½ hours whereas before I'd siesta for 1 hour.

I was damn close to an alcoholic, I couldn't stop drinking beer, even during radiotherapy, however day 24 I was on a different machine after returning home I haven't been able to stomach a beer at all, I've tried a few times and just can't drink it 'which I'm very happy about'.

My doctor is super impressed with my lack of side effects, I'm not taking any medications at all (occasional ibuprofen).

I started 16/8 fasting last week and I'm not feeling any downside, the American prostate cancer association are currently running clinical trials.

I hope my positive story helps some people have hope

Andy, a great story, you seem to have bounced back from the hormone and radio therapy really well. I hope all the positive outcomes stay long term.

I think, I'd have to consider a stomach transplant. 😁

Joking apart, it's great to see that you're making such a good recovery. 👍
