First post and worried

Hi all.  I’m new here.   Have not had any symptoms but took a test offered at work and my psa came back as 19.   Obviously I was shocked and it’s unsettled me.   I went for my mri scan yesterday and am  just waiting for the results.  I just wanted to say I’ve read through the posts and realise that if  I am diagnosed with pc it’s not the end of the world and that has gave me a degree of prospective     I will update in due course.   Many thanks all.

Hi Simon,

You seem to be reacting in a very calm and measured way.

I know how hard it is to stay level when you start hearing and seeing the word cancer in your medical discussions.

I tried to be as rational as possible but I'd be lying if I said worry didn't creep in.

All I can say is take things one test at a time, wait for the results and move on.

This is the hardest part of the journey as, like me, you have to learn a whole new language to pick your way through the tests and it's a long waiting game as results lead on to other tests or not as the case may be.

This place is a real help and there are guys on here, like Adrian, who have been there and got the tee shirt, fridge magnet and straw donkey. They won't lead you wrongly.

Take care and keep chatting

Mick.

Thanks mate.  I appreciate the reply.  It was a shock finding out after my blood test that my psa was high as I only had the test as I seen a flyer at work.  I’ve not had any noticeable symptoms really.  Obviously since  Ive been a bit obsessive trying to gauge my flow etc which until a week again I didn’t give a second thought .  I suppose that is natural though.   Cheers.  Simon

Ypi might become aware of things that you hadn't noticed before your tests.

It's natural to worry that every twinge or ache might be something serious.

Not sure how you will get your MRI results. I just got a phone call saying they needed to do a biopsy. I asked why and the nurse just said, well they are asking for one so you must need it. Not very supportive.

When I went for the biopsy was the first time anyone mentioned lesions or tumours. I was properly scared at that point. Had the biopsy, made my peace with having cancer and waited the confirmation. All I got was a call from a secretary saying I'd been discharged and I still don't know anything at all about what triggered all the tests. I understand the NHS is busy but surely a bit of explanation would have been possible. When I asked for someone to explain a few things I was told they were too busy dealing with people who really had cancer! Made me feel like a fraud.

Just be ready for the emotions an all clear will bring, not just a cancer diagnosis.

Hi Simon my husband was diagnosed at Stepping Hill and after his MRI got called by them early evening two days later to say they wanted to biopsy him as PIRADs 5 on the diagnostic scale but our friend went to Tameside and he received a letter about two weeks later asking him to come for biopsy so as you are near both these hospitals it might give you an idea about how they operate! Any questions please ask.
take care

Hi Simon,

I must say it is a bit of a shock when you get the call but it is early days and it takes time to get through all the procedures for a final result. I was referred for a PSA by my doctor following a private test to renew my 7.5 ton licence and microscopic blood was found in my urine.

I had further tests MRI and a biopsy and resulted with PSA 2.19 Gleason 3+4 = 7 and 5 out of 20 cores positive and all within the prostate.

I had a choice of Robotic surgery or Brachytherapy and after reading up on it decided to go for Brachytherapy .

I had brachytherapy in 2016 and regular psa tests until 2021 when i was signed off but still have yearly psa test.

I am at 8 years 6 months and still taking the wine.Try not to worry to much and take one step at a time it takes an

age to get every thing in line before you can make decisions. There are a lot of people on here that will advise and listen to you what ever the question. If you click on my Avatar and scroll down a long way you can see my journey so far . Good Luck John.

Hi all.  Thanks for you replies.  Just had a call off Tameside hospital regarding my scan.  It’s p rads4 which isn’t really a surprise as I was expecting it tbh.   I’m going Friday for a biopsy and then take it from there   The waiting had been the hardest thing and I am actually quite relieved things are moving fast. Reading  theses forums have made me realised it’s not the end of the world being diagnosed with pc  and I suppose I’m about the join an elite club !!    Cheers.  Simon

What type of biopsy Simon, transrectal or perineum?

I had the transrectal which was very easy, apart from a bit embarrassing.

Hi.   It’s a perineum.   I’ve got a holiday booked at the start of may.   Will I still be able to go

Good luck with the biopsy test & results, Simon.

I had a biopsy in Feb and was back cycling in a week and flying for work 10 days later (still wore calf support stockings just in case of post biopsy blood clots though).

Bit odd with passing / cuming blood afterwards, but otherwise was fine.

I'm sure your holiday in May will be doable!

Thanks for the reply.  I’ll need a holiday after all this    A week away would do me good.   Cheers
