life after prostrate cancer

Dear everyone

its been now nearly 3 years since my prostrate removal, life in general is almost back to normal, except in the bedroom department.First I tried the pump, that worked ok ,but the bands I found not very comfortable, this put me off also with the fiddling around before any sex. Dont get me wrong it works and for some this will be perfectly fine.I have tried viagra and this tends to have a delayed action, normally after taking the 50mg dose I tend to get a delayed reception and it can really take hours.I normally wake up with an erection rather than get one in an hour.Maybe this needs a bigger dose. What has worked the best for me is caverject.  Now its like gold trying to get the normal 20mg injections, in fact its now been 4 months since my last supply of the drug.Is anyone else having this problem.I think it effecting me more than my partner getting quite anxious over the whole situation. The doctors keep saying wait and see, but how long is a piece of string.Does anyone know of a suitable alternative as I am getting no feed back of my GP, its bad enough trying to get past the receptionist never mind see a doctor.Just wondering if this is normal amongst you guys .

Hi William.

Caverject didn't work for me but Invicorp does. Unfortunately, there are ocassionally supply issues with this drug. Here's a conversation on Invicorp.

Hi William,

I am almost 3 years post-op and still have great difficulty getting an erection without chemical assistance.  I use 5mg. of Tadalafil ('Cialis') daily just for maintenance of blood flow to penis, but I rarely get any erection with this dosage.  If you are using Sildenafil ('Viagra') then I would suspect that you need a full 100mg. dose.  Even then, you will probably still need direct stimulation of the penis for any meaningful response, rather than waiting for a spontaneous erection.

I also use the 40mcg. dose of Caverject to get a useable erection.  (The 20mcg. dose was insufficient for me).  I am only prescribed enough for one injection per week, so I have to ration it :-).  I have also sometimes had interruptions to supply, but currently there doesn't seem to be a problem.  (I'm in Manchester and use Boots Pharmacy).

Best wishes,

JedSee.
