Prostate cancer survivor. Here to answer anyone's questions based on my experiences.

I have survived prostate cancer for 8 yrs now. I had surgery in 2017 to remove my prostate and I remember having tons of questions along the way, and nobody to talk to, except the doctors, who I trusted, but their answers were always so sterile, if you will. Please feel free to ask anything, whether you are recently diagnosed, or you just want to compare your experience with someone on the same journey. I might add that I also had penile implant surgery, and I am not imbarrassed to discuss that as well, if interested. I just remember that I had no forum to ask questions along the way, and it would have helped me tremendously, to have discussed these issues with someone who had been there already.

Well done you.

I, too, am a survivor having been diagnosed as Stage 4 in June 2012 with a PSA of 660. Only ever been on hormone therapy (still have my prostate) now with an undetectable PSA plus both body scans (bone and soft tissue) from middle of last year show no evidence of cancer (whereas previously widespread).

Yes, it is a traumatic diagnosis but hope always persists.

Hi Dave,

Possibly I am but it has never been raised by my Onco and I may discuss at next appointment and see what they say.

Hi Jerry.

Welcome to the forum mate.

It's a pity that you didn't find us eight years ago when you were diagnosed and going through your treatment. It's always been full of people like you who've dealt with prostate cancer and who are willing to help and support others who are going through it.

I think there are only a couple of the lads that have had the implant operation on here, so your experiences will be helpful to others who may be considering having the operation.

Jerry, just wondering if your PSA has remained undetectable for 8yrs and also if your surgery was nerve sparring?

Thanks

Hi Boroboy, you're a walking miracle. Great results pal, can you advise how your body has coped with 12 years of HT?

Weight gain, fatigue, blood pressure wise?

Boroboy, are you a candidate for intermittent hormone therapy? I know there is an argument for not rocking the boat, but it sounds like you might be able to go some time without HT, of course if the HT ain't bothering you no point in changing.

Absolutely, it always amazes me how some men don’t seem to get side effects, yet others suffer intolerably, and nobody seems to know why? We’ve got an 80+ gent in our Maggies Group, stage 4, been on HT for years, and everything else….and never really had any side effects🤷🏼‍♂️

Hi,

Reasonably well. Weight gain and fatigue are probably the main factors. Weight gain was fairly quick in coming and I put on about two stone. That, obviously impacts pressure on knees/hips and I am on BP pills (after about 4 or 5 years in and may not be PC related).

Fatigue is now much more of an issue but I am 78 - it was not so bad in the early years.

Yes, I agree with you - I am very lucky.
