Bone scan anxiety

Hi,

My husband recently had the results of his MRI scan and was told there was some suspicious areas on the left side of his prostate as well as the lymph nodes.  I am finding this all very overwhelming.

He is going for a bone scan next week, followed by a biopsy the following week. He is 59 and has absolutely no symptoms.

I am very anxious about him being sent for a bone scan before the biopsy, as I am worried that the results of the MRI scan indicates spread to the bones.

I have read that with a PSA level above 20 it is normal for a bone scan to be done. My husband last had his PSA level checked in January and it was 24.

Just looking for some reassurance that this is part of the normal diagnosis pathway and nothing more.

Thanks in advance for any responses.

Absolutely part of the normal diagnostic process. I had PSA 25, and my bone scan was clear. They just need all the information possible before deciding on treatment.

WW, a bone scan is frequently used as part of the diagnostic procedure. I had one and my PSA was only 7.7.

Easy to say but just try to relax until all the facts are there.

Thanks Chris

My husband had bone scan before biopsy, PSA 20ish. It was clear fortunately. It’s part of normal diagnostic tests so they have the full picture.

Hi there

My husband had a bone scan last year as part of his tests his PSA was 5.6 and bone scan came back clear.

So easy to say but try not to worry about is pretty routine for to have the scan. If he does turn out to have Prostate Cancer there is lots of treatments available my husband was 58 and had Gleason 9 cancer. He’s doing well!

Keep posing here you will get lots of support!

Best Wishes
