Anyone else have toe swelling?

I was looking for some advice.  My dad was diagnosed with Prostate cancer in Nov-24.  Gleason score 3+4, PSA greater than 20.  Put on Zoladex - implant 10th Dec.  Early Feb-25 he returned from golf with a feeling like he had stubbed his toe.  To cut a very long story short... His toe then swelled up and has been like this ever since.  When he puts his feet up, the feet look fine (albeit a slightly swollen toe).  But when he stands up, you can see the foot change colour as the blood rushes into the foot and the toe swells a bit more.  It can be painful.  He is now limping.  Oncologists adamant that it has nothing to do with the implant.  He also had gold seeds implanted....  Have anyone else had something similar?

Sounds to me like he could be suffering a bout of Gout (over production of Uric Acid). I have this as did my Father. He found out this following a cricket ball hitting his foot causing a bit toe to swell. I suggest you ask Dad's GP to arrange for him to have a blood test for Gout. If this is diagnosed he could have a tablet of appropriate strength to help excreet excess Uric Acid with his urine. If it is Gout and nothing is done in time there will be a build up of crystals in the toe joint and stiffness and pain.

Let us know how he gets on.

Thanks Barry.  He has had gout ruled out by a blood test.

He had an MRI and ultrasound and one of them (I can't remember which) showed bone erosion.

For me the strange thing is how the foot turns a different colour as you can pretty much see the blood flow into the foot.  It's very strange.

It has been mentioned that this is because he is 74.... And just one of those things.... A mere coincidence that this has started and he just happens to have started cancer treatment.

He is managing to limp round the golf course so that's a positive!

My husband had exactly the same shortly after his surgery. The big toe was very painful and swollen. He had banged his big toe but nothing significant. He hobbled along. He had a blood test but the toe had improved a little bit by then and gout was not thought to be the cause. Never established what it was. He was not on hormone treatment at the time. I just thing it was an unrelated issue.

Thank you for your comments IDK2.  Your husband's condition I think does sound different as it sounds like it improved relatively quickly. This has been 3 months now and showing no signs of improvement.  As mentioned oncologist saying it's a coincidence.....and maybe it is if no one else out there got this....!!

Hope your dad’s toe improves quickly so he can enjoy his golf.
