Travelling with self catheters

I've been on Active Survielence for some years, but my enlarged prostate has been preventing me from emptying my bladder properly, and I have now had to start self catheterising.   Have to say, I've been pleasantly surprise how I have settled into the process and it has already made life a bit more manageable not having to plan pee stops every 1 or 2 hours !

We are due to travel abroad soon and we will of course spread the necessary supply of catheters across our luggage, but  I'm concerned about how security deal with my supply of self catheters in my carry on bag.  The info I read online says it's OK to take then through security, but any liquids are dealt with in the usual way, ie 100ml and in a separate clear bag.    However, my catheters are hydrophilic and come pre packed with a small pouch of water sealed inside the package.  It cannot be removed without compromising the sterile packaging.

Does anyone on here have any experience or knowledge of travelling with similar catheters ?

I have taken mine in hold luggage many time I just make sure there not next to anything hard and take a couple of spares in case of a burst, but so far they never have. If I had to take them in hand luggage I would take the prescription or a medical letter referring to them. If you don't want to have them on show you could leave them in the bag and when you get stopped ask for the search to be in private.

Cheers

I haven't needed hydrophilic self catheters for five years, but I did travel with some in my hand luggage. No one paid any attention to them. It was only two flights so not a representative sample. I wouldn't worry if I were you.

Thanks for the replies Bill & Dave.
I'm only a week into this new world of self catheterisation, and probably over thinking things.    We are going away for a week shortly, so I'll see how it goes.    I'll maybe look into getting a letter from the GP too.
