Unable to get erection

Now seven months post op and still unable to get an erection. Tried pumps with no real success, able to get hard whilst pump is maintaining vacuum, but once released, Mr Floppy returns immediately.

My doctor prescribed 5mg Tadalafil, this gives me the urges but not the results.

I am still doing the pelvic floor exercises and my PSA last time was 0.02

I am told to be patient and things will happen eventually but how long is eventually?

I am really getting frustrated with it.

Any ideas.

Hello again mate.

It's nice to see another Grimbarian on here.

I had my non nerve sparing prostatectomy over two years ago. I was told that I would never have a  natural erections again and unfortunately that's been the case.

Six month after the op, I was referred by my surgeon to the ED clinic at Castle Hill. It ended up with me being prescribed Invicorp injections which worked for me.

Please see the attached link.

Best of luck.👍

The 5mg is a daily low dose which is aiming to improve blood supply to nerves so they heal faster/better. It's likely to be too low to get an erection at this stage. The event dose of Tadalafil is 20mg, and you could ask for some of those to try. You can skip the 5mg for 3 days when you take a 20mg, because it lasts that long. You could even do this with the 5mg by taking 2 or 3 of them one day and then skipping the following day(s) to get back in sync. Another option would be to switch to 2 x 20mg/week which still gives you the continuous low dosing of the 5mg daily low dose, but also adds in two boosts where you can try for erections.

You should talk with your doctor before adjusting dosing, and would have to if you change prescription.

Andy, your advice, as always is excellent, but Trev is frustrated. Would he not to better to ask for injections? If his nerves have been irrepairably damaged he could have bucket fulls of viagra and they'd still have no affect.

Trev, I assume we get our PSA tests done at the same lab. I think your results will be <0.02, the lowest they measure to and means that your PSA is undetectable which is excellent news, mate.

Hi Trev,

I'm assuming you had nerve sparing surgery, if that's the case, it can still take a frustratingly long time for erections to return. In my case it took a good 8 months for things to start working again, and a couple more years of gradual improvement. In the meantime I used injections for a couple of years. This not only served its purpose, but it gave me a huge boost in confidence and lifted my low mood.

I would also recommend keeping sexual activity and intimacy going even though you might find it difficult at times.

Don't give up.

Good luck,

Kev.

Hello Adrian,

Yes I was concentrating on the recovery which he should keep up with.

For the immediate here and now, yes, ask for injections.

You won't get enough injections to use them for penile rehab though, so keep up with the rehab too.

Thanks for the advice guys, it is frustrating and sometimes even embarrassing, luckily I have an understanding wife.

I am due a review, hopefully in the next few weeks and I will ask about the injections.

Have to say that this forum is great and I know I am not alone and that whatever my problem somebody has found a way to overcome it.

Will try and be more active on this forum now.

You should be able to call your CNS and ask them to setup an appointment for injections with the ED clinic, without waiting for next consultation.
