Found my way here, diagnosed a week ago with T3a 3+4, 6 of 26 cores positive. its at right side of my prostate and they are concerned it will spread further outside of prostate next. its absolutley wiped me out, had only just been goven the 5 year all clear from testicular cancer, had to have final blood test and CT scan. 2 weeks later they are ringing saying PSA was high 10.4/54 years old. options they have given are surgery or Hormone/Radiotherapy. Feeling very lost at the minute.

Hi Graeme.

I'm very sorry that you've had to join the Club, but welcome to the forum, mate.

You're bound to feel lost and anxious, but you'll be okay.

Terrible luck having had testicular cancer then having to deal with this. When I had my prostate removed there was a bloke waiting for the same op who who'd also had testicular cancer.

You're a bit younger than most of us old fogies. If it gives you any comfort I was T3a with extraprostatic extension, Gleason 9(4+5), my PSA was only 7. I had RARP over 2 years ago and at the minute seem 'cancer free'. I suspect at your age, you'll be directed more to surgery than RT.

Whatever you decide, you'll get loads of support and advice here, mate

Graeme, sorry to hear about your diagnosis. I can assure you that you will find a lot of help on this forum, no question is too little or too big, just ask away! The fact that you have  been given a few treatment is a positive, and also means it was caught early, so speak to all the specialists (go prepared with a crib sheet) and ask pertinent questions to enable come to a suitable decision that would work for you.

I am over 3yrs post surgery, there are a number of folks on here a lot longer than me.

Hi Graham

Sorry that you have joined the club of reluctant members. You will find the site very useful I am sure.

There are a lot of very knowledgeable people who are only to willing to give practical advice and share their experiences.

I was T3a Gleason 8 (this was subsequently downgraded to 7 , 3 / 4 , I asked for advice from the clinician but was told it was my decision and given some leaflets explaining the options. It is a positive thing to actually be given a choice ,for some unfortunate people they do not have the same treatment options.

I would suggest you read up on the pros and cons of Surgery v Radiotherapy, there is a lot of information on this site about both options. The data I was given suggests the outcomes are the same in terms of success rates for both ,neither has a distinct advantage .

It ultimately comes down to personal choice ,in my case I chose surgery , the main side effects are ED and incontinence, the degrees of which vary for each individual. In my case both are things I have accepted as necessary to get rid of the Cancer .

Good Luck whichever route you take

Swannie
