Sat in hospital waiting to go down for RARP

User
Posted 30 Jun 2025 at 13:39

So my treatment day has arrived, I’m currently sat in a side room waiting to head into theatre for my rarp. Lots of emotions flowing through my mind at the minute but I have an amazing wife and family and friends to support me through the other side. I have also started a YouTube channel to help raise awareness but also as a personal cathartic thing for myself. If interested please take a look on YouTube for @flashlamacq Living with prostate cancer in the UK.

I’ll post back here in the coming days. But also thanks to those who have reached out on my concerns for the side effects to come.

cheers

Cheers Niko , yeah not been great and the district nurse has said the main wound that has opened up is likely to take until October/November to fully heal, all the while I shouldn’t drive either. So deffo watch out for that when the staples get taken out, and the uti with the catheter was a real nightmare and still on antibiotics now. Hope all goes well for you mate

Thank you for doing this.

I watched many similar videos before my procedure and found them very helpful.

Hi Flash,

Does your todger look smaller? I know when I'd had my op and looked under the sheets, I thought they given me a sex change. ðŸ˜ą

Good luck. I wish you a speedy recovery, mate. 👍

Hello mate been watching your progress on YouTube , I see you haven’t had the greatest recovery so far with the A&E visits , hope your over the worst of it now and things start getting better, got to say as someone waiting for surgery it is an eye opener , my surgery is in London miles away from home and after watching your vids I am more considering staying at a hotel near the hospital in London at least until catheter comes out

I’m not 100% certain but I was under the impression that my stitches will be dissolvable and won’t need taking out , it seems strange though as to why some different methods would be used , I have a prehab consultation at the end of the month so another question on the list , all the best mate

I had two of the six incisions open up after staples were removed so perhaps it's not uncommon.

Fortunately for me there was no infection, just a delay in overall recovery.

Nikko

With the Retzius sparing RARP+neuroSAFE I had a combo of glue and self dissolvable stitches. This seems to be the case with the other chaps that saw the prof.

Great videos. You’re probably on the right side of surgery now and wondering why you were so stressed beforehand. I was giving birth to bricks beforehand but managed to keep my cool just about. Then afterwards, I realised that it was less trouble than having my tonsils out.  keeping an eye on the urine flow into the bag and managing that for a couple of weeks was stressful points but Completely manageable with help from fantastic people on here and a bit of engineering skills.

tomorrow you’ll feel like a rockstar when you’re able to get up and walk around with your leg bag

Onwards and upwards and just take it easy ….that’s the hardest thing. Please do follow  clinical advice about taking things easy. The first three months not doing too much will aid the healing process and pass faster than you think.

Keep us posted re your progress and shout if you have any questions or problems as PC UK is a fantastic sounding board

Cheers, rockstar might be a little optimistic ha ha but all good a bit sore and heading home shortly, I’ve got a fantastic wife and adult kids to pamper me for a couple of weeks so what’s not to like ðŸĪ˜

and yeah this community is great, really encouraging I’ve read loads and it’s great to chat with actual people who have gone/going on the same journey

Don’t do what I did and compare the previous nights pre-op todger pic (taken with my phone) with post-op just as the nurse walks in….  ðŸ˜ĩ‍ðŸ’ŦðŸĪŠðŸŦĒ👀

Yeah sadly a bit but I can live with that knowing hopefully it’s been gotten rid of the cancer, just a waiting game for pathology report now, but the catheter isn’t pleasant at all but only got til 11 so not too long to wait.

cheers

Great to hear it’s settling. I had one of the entry wounds which was a bit angry but didn’t need any treatment and resolved after a few days.

I guess another benefit of the newer single port robots as less scope for post op infection.
