On the fence between surgery or RT/HT

Well, I've joined the club none of us want to be in. I wish all of you the very best in whatever part of your journey you are at.

I need to make the decision that so many of us have to - I just need some pointers from yourselves.

At age 70 fit and well with no symptoms, no family history I have my first PSA test and score 12.19.

MRI then biopses and diagnosis confirmed yesterday. Gleason 7 (3+4), CPG 3, 15 out of 18 samples with cancer. T2 N0 M0.  Cancer is contained and I know how lucky that makes me.

Obviously a very stressful few weeks waiting for diagnosis. The specialist I saw yesterday is a surgeon and said he would recommend that route.

I'm really on the fence and am trying to get to a decision. Thank you in advance for guidance and replies.

Hello, mate. Welcome to the forum.

Here's a decent film on treatment options.

I hope it helps.

I'm in the same situation as you, and same age nearly (I'll be 70 in December). Only difference is my MRI came in as a T3a.

I'm waiting to hear the result of the SMDT meeting, and also waiting for a bone scan. It doesn't look like it's spread according to the urology consultant I saw last week, but apparently a bone scan is normally done as a safeguard if you're T3a.

Having read through every bit of literature I can, I favour robotic surgery  because I just want rid of the cancer as quickly as possible, but will wait to hear what the SMDT say.

DaveyH,

I hope you get sorted soon. I'm taking the weekend off and will restart my research on Monday !

All the best.
