It can vary from 7 to 14 , sometimes it will depend on the day of surgery and the day of a catheter clinic. I often do a very long description of the process, but Swannie sums it up quite well. I would just add to make sure you are hydrated before getting to the hospital, especially in this hot weather.

Thanks

14 days for me.

Only issue was the journey home. I was bursting for a wee just a couple of minutes after leaving the hospital!

Mine was 24 days and some confusion. A nurse told me the day after the op that I had some complications and needed the catheter for 24 days. However, after that everyone denied there were any complications. I was sent home with both a catheter and a blood drain bag. The blood drain was removed after a week and was no longer filling up. The catheter was removed at 24 days and next day I had a water infection!

14 days. I was almost a ninja at managing it by that point ðŸĪŠ Only fail was drinking loads which was necessary for the trial without catheter to ensure I could void my bladder. Then I got on a train with an out of order loo and was busting. The guard kindly sorted me out when I told him why I needed access…..then over the remaining hour on the train I was peeing for England ðŸ˜ĩ‍ðŸ’Ŧ👀

i had traveljohn gel bags and loads of pads but was quite willing to pee on the platform (in a corner) at a stop rather than wet myself had it come to it ðŸĪŊ

if I did it again I’d stay near the hospital for two hours to empty out a bit 👀

Not a bad shout tbh but if you are on an intercity will be working loos. I was on a stopper for 90mins. ðŸ˜ĩ‍ðŸ’Ŧ

A cover for the seat, with a towel on top just in case, a boots urine bottle again just in case. As a work colleague used to say better to be looking at them rather than looking for them.

Thanks Chris

Thanks for replies guys 👍

am asking really as if it’s only in for 7 days I will stay in hotel near hospital as it’s a fair way from home  but if it’s longer I will probably go home

good pointer @techguy on maybe staying at hospital or even overnight after catheter removal to get rid of the excess ðŸ˜Đ👍
