Are results from biopsy normally given face to face or only if it is a positive cancer results?

Thanks

You should get your biopsy results face to face with a urology consultant. I'd be very surprised if they gave you any indication over the phone.

So even negative result would be face to face?

I can only talk about my biopsy results which came as a very short letter to my GP.

I had been assured I would be told by phone of the results but no call came and a week after I'd expected the call I rang the hospital.  I was unceremoniously told I'd been discharged and that they were far too busy with people who really did have cancer to talk to me.

So I would not expect a face to face meeting for good news. No matter what should happen it seems very much a case of you get what you are given according to the trust involved.

It seems the NHS are ill equipped to deal with the numbers of prostate cases that are now being discovered.

Mick.

Hi Michael - yes good point, I reckon if your results are negative, they may just send you a letter or phone you. Mine were unfortunately positive, so I'm only speaking from personal experience. Wishing you good luck.

As soon as I received my face to face appointment with the consultant I knew it would be to tell me the outcome was positive for cancer (which it was).

If the outcome is good, you are still likely to have questions so a telephone appointment is perfectly OK but I wouldn't have welcomed a letter.
