First Appointment After Biopsy

Recent PSA result up from 2.3 to 9.8 and changes felt in prostate on DRE. Was put of "fast-track" pathway on 28.07.

PI RADS score of 4 - lesion shown on scan and radiologist said PC likely. MRI was 04.08.

Had biopsy on 11.08 and been struggling with anxiety over wait for results.

Appointment confirmed this morning with urology for next Wednesday - no wiser as to results, but at least I have a date to work towards. Not sure if I can read anything into it being a face to face appointment at James Cook UH.

I've read other's experience that negative results come by phone or letter - if at all without chasing.

Having to accept a diagnosis of PC is possible, or likely given results of PSA/DRE/MRI and family history of PC.

Feeling more shaky now with an appointment pending.

Matt.

Welcome along, although I know you'd rather be anywhere else than where you are now.

I would NOT read anything whatsoever into the way your biopsy results are delivered. Honestly, it's a complete mess and a lottery. Some hospitals seem capable of managing fairly well, most are dreadful. I had the same sort of scores as you and had wound myself up ready to get the bad news. I got jack sh1t. No phone call, no letter no nothing. Till I made contact and was told I'd been discharged. No result or explanation at all, just bugger off and stop wasting our valuable time.

Hopefully your hospital will do it right and take you through the biopsy result, explaining that it's negative and you just need to have a psa test every so often.

If it's positive then hopefully they will lay out options and treatment plans to consider.

I wish you all the very best and can only tell you to take this process one test at a time and try to stay positive no matter what.

Best regards Mick

Thanks Mick.

Fingers crossed. The process has been pretty quick from the GP referral to the biopsy in 2 weeks and that would have been quicker has the computers not been down at the hospital on my first attempted biopsy which would have been just 10-days after referral.

We have some cancer experience as my wife had suspected bowel cancer 3 years ago and after much delay was simply told the results were "encouraging".

I wouldn't have been so anxious if the radiologist hadn't explained the MRI results at the cancelled biopsy and said based on the MRI report cancer was likely.

But there we are. Only 5 days to wait.

My elder brother had PC about 15 years ago and his prostate was removed. We nearly lost him under the GA, but that was because he was so unfit. He's still going strong in his 70's now.

Yes mine was cancer is very likely but came back clear.

I worry they missed finding it because they only took three samples from each of two areas of concern.

But I will just have to keep an eye on things now.

Fingers crossed.

They took 16 samples from my single site.

If I get the all clear, I'm going to ask for 6-monthly PSA tests. I had one in 2022 and didn't realise until I had the latest in July - I'd spoken to friends with similar problems who were being tested 6-monthly and I wondered why I wasn't.

It has been a steep learning curve.

I was told if I was still concerned about my prostate health issues could ask for another psa test, but not for AT LEAST 12 months.

Bloody hell, I wasn't concerned at all till you boys started prodding and poking. Now you make me feel that I was making it up!  You bet your life I'm still concerned about my prostate health, imbecile!

Barnsley NHS not the best in Britain, not the best in Barnsley to be honest lol.
