T3 or not T3 that is the question

Hi there

My husband has recently been diagnosed as T3 with signs of it cracking out .  But when I read other members post who are also unfortunately T3 their results say prostate confined . I thought T3 meant it had breached already ?

Cracking out and cracking up.

Hi Mrs Worry

I was diagnosed T3a , they suspected a breach ,but subsequent scans confirmed that their had not been a breach.

You will know more when the scans have been carried out ,hopefully it will be good news 👍

Thanks swannie , we met with the surgeon at solihull hospital and he's booked in for surgery next month , will be partial nerve sparing with lymph node removal as well. The surgeon said its just nudging the nerves on one side .

Hi Mrs Worry.

The differences between T2, prostate confined, and T3a prostate breached, can be miniscule, just the thickness of the prostate outer layer or capsule.

Pre-op, they had me T2c/T3a. Post-op, I was confirmed T3a, but the extraprostatic extension was only 1mm.

Thanks Adrian

My problem is I'm in Awe of the surgeon so I don't concentrate when he's talking 😅.  I forget to ask the most important questions.  The CNS nurse described it as starting to crack out . The surgeon said nudging the nerve bundle. I guess we will know more after the op , perhaps its better not to know too much at this stage its not really going to change the outcome now he's decided on surgery.  If I meet the surgeon again I will imagine him as an accountant or something less awe inspiring  (no offence ).

They say, the best way to relax in the presence of authoritative and slightly intimidating people is imagine them naked.

That might work if he's elderly, 5'4", fat, and pallid. However, if he's a six foot, bronzed,  Adonis, it might make things worse! 😁

I would suggest most people who are T3a, not being offered full nerve sparing, or being recommended pelvic lymph node dissection (lymph node removal) should also speak with an oncologist to see what they can offer. (An exception might be for a very young patient). However, I can't see details of his diagnosis anywhere (such as age, presenting PSA, Gleason and locations of the tumours, which are all factors too.
