Post Prostatectomy PSA Anxiety

Hi I underwent a successful RARP in March this year and had my first 12 week PSA follow up in May, which the results were encouraging at <0.025. I have my next PSA test in 4 weeks time and I am finding myself more anxious and nervous around this test, actually more so than making the decision to have surgery in the first place. Is it normal to feel this level of stress and anxiety going into a round of post-surgery testing? Thanks

Hi

yes I think it is normal ,I had surgery in January and have had 2 PSA blood tests ,I feel anxious until I get confirmation that all is OK .In my case it is the fear that further treatment may be necessary with all the potential side effects that may occur.I think it is just something we all have to learn to live with.

I have a friend who is 15 years post surgery ,he still gets anxious when his annual PSA blood test is due.

Good luck for the future 👍

10 years post RP I get my latest result on Monday, not expecting it to be good.. Yes it's normal to stress, no it doesn't get easier.

Another here, who gets PSA stress. To me, it doesn't get easier. In fact, I'm more anxious about them after my op than I was before it. I fear recurrence far more than I did the diagnosis of PCa or any rises during active surveillance.

Good luck to everyone, especially francij1 on Monday.🤞
