What info do I need as a minimum ?

Hi there, grateful for any thoughts regarding my situation.
Im 58 and recently diagnosed with PC (Gleeson 3+4) and am now on active surveillance. I am grateful for the help I have had.

Having read up on diagnosis on this site I wrote down a few questions which I felt might be relevant. I was effectively told I didn’t need to know the details apart from the fact that the cancer was contained in the prostate and Gleeson score. I did feel my situation was explained properly to me.

I have seen loads of numbers mentioned on this forum so wanted to ask what do I really need to know. What other information should I be asking for, if any?

One more thing:

It’s a couple of months since the biopsy. My testicles seem quite tender and I will book in to see the GP about it, but is this likely to be related to the biopsy or is it all in my head?

I’ll be interested to hear your thoughts, thanks

Hello mate

im 56 and was also 3+4 , I had surgery to take it out 10 days ago

questions I asked before were where was the tumour positioned ,is it on the edge etc

what is the percentage of your pattern 4

how confident are they in the clarity of the MRI scan (and did you have a MPMRI) I ask this as my first scan was not an MPMRI and I heard mention that it perhaps wasn’t as clear as it could be , I paid privately to have an MPMRI which then changed my surgeons opinion from Possible AS to surgery , after surgery shows that the tumour was a lot bigger than initially thought , it was closer to the edge , and the pattern 4 which I was told was less than 10% was actually over 20%

all the best

Nick

Sorry you've found yourself here but welcome to the fold and a great site for info and support.

As Nick suggested above. And I would also ask:

1) what is the PSAD score - the ratio of PSA level and prostate volume

2) What is the T stage? T1, T2a, T2b or T2c?

3) did the biopsy note any perineural invasion? (if PCa areas are bordering inner nerves of the prostate).

4) how many biopsy points where taken and of those how many positive of Gleason 3 and of 4.

I too am late 50's and on AS at the moment - and am being very 'active'. Not that I don't trust the decision but I'm the sort of person who likes all the data and be able to discuss with the urologist the thresholds to either stay on AS or move to treatment.

Thanks both

That’s all really useful and this forum is a great resource to have.

I actually managed to speak with my gp today who agreed that I didn’t really have much info to digest. He also had my latest psa (it’s been a struggle to actually get test results) which had risen from 4.2 to 4.7. Whether that is significant or not I don’t know. GP was therefore writing to urologist to request a meeting to discuss things in more detail.

I’ll have to do some reading in advance but the information provided here will allow me to get a much better idea of my position.
