Told Radio therapy not an option but now it is ??

I have advanced prostate cancer with multiple lymph nodes involvement around my bony, I was first told that I can only have Hormone Therapy and radio therapy wasn’t an option because there were too many lymph nodes affected but on my last visit I was told that I will be having radiotherapy within the next 6 months. I am a bit confused, can anyone advise?
Thanks

Hi again Nick.

As I said in your previous conversation, I have no personal experience, of what you are going through. However, I've been doing some research to try and help.

This very recent video on lymph node involvement from Dr Scholz may be helpful. It seems the number of lymph nodes involved and their location are crucial factors in formulating a treatment plan.

There are several other posters on here, far more knowledgeable than me, who might be better able to answer your query.

Treating the primary tumour even when it has spread has demonstrated significant survival benefit. It sounds like they are treating your pelvis lymph nodes too.

Are you sure you have spread outside your pelvis lymph nodes? If you don't this treatment could be curative.

If you have a few outside the pelvis you should ask why they cannot be zapped too.

Nick, I had surgery followed by salvage RT, a few years later the cancer flared up again and a scan revealed cancer in a pelvic lymph node and it was treated. At that point I was told the NHS would only treat a maximum of 5 hot spots others have been told only 3 hot spots. Things are changing all the time and treatment options are changing all the time , there are also variations in Wales, England and Scotland.

Thanks Chris

Thank you Chris I appreciate your reply, the changes in my case were only within a few weeks and I think it’s only my pelvic area that will be treated by RT and not the ones elsewhere in my body.

Hi francij1.

Nick in another conversation stated:

Received results of PET scan in June that cancer had spread to multiple lymph nodes and was now incurable.

However, I'm not sure whether they are confined to the pelvis area or have spread further afield?

Hi francij1

Thank you for your reply, unfortunately I was told it’s incurable as it’s in multiple lymph nodes in lots many hotspots around my pelvic area on both sides and around my neck and shoulder, I will ask how many hotspots it is exactly when I next see my oncologist.

Sorry to hear that.

Make sure you ask about triplet therapy: hormone, radio and chemo while you are seeing the Onco..

Thank you. I think that is maybe what I will be having as they mentioned Chemo also.
