502 error

User

Is it just me? Or are others finding things are still as bad?

It's a bit random, sometimes ok

I was going to post that things may have been sorted, but when I clicked on your pub post I got the 502, things are still slow in places.

Thanks Chris

It's far from perfect. Very temperamental and unreliable. A bit like Arkwright's till in Open All Hours. 🙂

Had it three times today.

502 error, that is.

The Charity no longer give excuses or updates on when they expect problem to be sorted - very poor.

Agree things are pretty much the same. I don’t think any work has been done to resolve this.
So poor, and such a pity, as this is a great active forum, and most of us would probably post more regularly were it not for the frustration of it.
It is also very poor that there are no progress reports from the powers that be. It’s almost as though they couldn’t care less.

In the mean time best to write our comments on Word and copy and paste, particularly for long posts.

Hi guys, this doesn't always work. If you click on a link a get the 502, try this. Put you finger on the link and wait, after a short while a list of actions comes up including, open in chrome  browser, click on that link and it normally opens the pages in another tab. This is on an android phone.

Thanks Chris

I've just emailed the executive assistant of the CEO, and informed her of the continued technical issues which are making the forum virtually usable. It's a disgrace and needs urgent attention.

I let you know the response.

We could always set up on Facebook instead 😬.

User

SpongeBob,there already is a Facebook site but there is probably always room for another. Not everyone does Facebook,so this site does fill a gap.

Thanks Chris

I've just got an update from the CEO's assistant.

Dear Adrian,

Thank you for your email. I am so sorry there are continuing problems with the platform. I have made enquiries to try to find out the cause. Carol Jones has explained that we have been trying a test version of the platform for several weeks and were happy that the test platform was working as expected without the 502 error we are encountering on the live site.

A live test was performed last week when we switched over the live platform to our test platform for a short time. Unfortunately, we encountered issues when doing so. We have had to switch back to the live platform whilst we work on investigating and resolving the issues we found with our test platform. We are currently running more tests and working on fixing these issues. It is too soon to be able to say when the issues will be resolved but we are working on fixing the problems.

I’m very sorry that the problems are continuing and we’re unable to say when they will be resolved. It must be extremely frustrating. I can assure you that the team are very concerned about the ongoing problems and are working hard to try and resolve it.

I will communicate with the CEO about your correspondence and frustration. Apparently it is still the case that reloading the page when an error message occurs generally allows access.

Kind regards,

Katie

I know nothing about IT. I'll leave it to you lads, who do. 🫤

An alternative would be for us all to transfer to the Prostate Cancer forum on Macmillan Support, unless or until they can sort out this long ongoing problem. However, having taken a look at the Micmillan one, I must say that this one here seems more comprehensive, so I hope they devote the necessary resources to resolve current problems soon.

Just given up once again! Six times to report a scam post through 502 error on one of my posts.  This is my third time to even say this. If we all give up on this online community will be reduced in huge supportive value.  Just copying and maybe need to paste to even say this.

I've just had a similar runs of errors. It is infuriating!

The good news is?  Now that I'm constantly banging my head on a brick wall trying to fix this site. Repetitive concussion, or high blood pressure is far more likely 'to see me off' than prostate cancer. 🙂

I can't help wondering how many people just give up on the site because of this issue - people seeking some support. It's been going on so long, it's not good. Imagine trying to access it for the first time to be confronted by a 502, that will be enough in itself to stop most people straight away.

And if anything the issue is getting worse, each first attempt to sign in brings a guaranteed 502. It can typically take 2 or 3 attempts just to get in. And then once in each navigation will bring a 502, easy to then give up each time you try view or post something.

It does take some considerable patience and determination to get something posted.

Lets hope Santa can sprinkle some magic on the job.

Hi, folks.

Francij1 recently posted this on another thread.

"I wrote to the CEO of PCUK weeks ago about the 902 error and it's impact on the community, because I had zero response I tagged PCUK on X about the lack of response. Low and behold within hours I got the following reply to my original email:

"Thank you for raising your concerns and for your patience. I completely understand how frustrating these ongoing issues have been, and I want to assure you that your feedback and feedback received from others, has prompted significant action behind the scenes.

The root cause lies in the age of the technology, which means quick fixes haven’t resolved the underlying problems. The issues became significant when an improvement was made about six months ago. Right now, a thorough technical analysis is underway to confirm the scope of the problems and the best way forward. We’ve held back from sharing too much detail until we have a clear plan, as we know repeated promises without visible change can add to frustration.

The most effective solution would be to rebuild the platform to resolve all issues and future proof it. While all the implications of this are considered and views from members are sought, the shorter term solution will most likely be to go back to an earlier version of the platform. The hope is that this will resolve the current problems, but we don’t see this as the permanent solution as some features may be lost.

Whatever solution is chosen, it won’t be immediate, but we will consult on how to minimise disruption "

Over the last couple of days, I've not encountered any site errors. Has the fault been rectified.? Or have I just been lucky?

Adrian, not had any 502 errors in the last couple of days, the speed of the site is a little erratic. As I posted the other day I can no longer see the search facility. It wasn't always great, and using Google from outside the app is an option.

Thanks Chris

None so far today  for me

On the search , you may know you can do a sitewide only  search with this typed in the Google search field

site:https://community.prostatecanceruk.org/

eg if the search term is "502 error"

site:https://community.prostatecanceruk.org/ 502 error

or look for "advanced search" on Google and add the domain or site url if you want to be more specific eg date range

Hi all,

We believe the 502 issue was resolved with the work completed on Tuesday 13th January. We are closely monitoring the platform to ensure this is the case. Please let us know if you receive a 502 error message by replying on this thread to notify us of the day/time you received the error message.

We are continuing to work on resolving some other stability issues with the platform so you may see some features that are temporarily disabled for a day or so (for example search function) whilst we carry out further tests on the platform.

Best wishes,

Carol

Carol, thank you for your update, there are other issues that have a small or insignificant impact but their failure maybe significant to the overall working of the site.

I rarely log out of the site and my presence on the site is set to hidden. When I come onto the site like today,it says " since my last visit on the 13th of January"  in reality my last visit was this morning and everyday for many years.

When returning to the site I usually click the" last day "option in order to pick up posts that have the wrong time stamp due to the moderation process. If I click on the last month option, it shows three pages but no matter which page I pick , it will only show the last couple of weeks.

Thanks Chris
