Hi Wullie.
I wouldn't worry unduly at the moment. The blood test you had was probably as PSA test to see what the level of PSA is. That level can indicate but not confirm prostate cancer. What was the number you were given as the reason for a hospital referral?
If the trip to hospital is related to your PSA level then it's most likely to be for an MRI scan. This is a kind of xray to see what's going on with your enlarged prostate. The enlargement can be for any of several reasons not linked to cancer so there is no need to worry about that.
The key here is to be patient and just take things one test at a time. It's hard but it's the best way to avoid the stress of thinking every road leads to cancer. Also information is so very vital to understand what is going on. You must ask questions and take notes of the numbers and names that might be flowing at you if you are to interpret what's going on.
You do just have to go along with the appointments and tests but dont let it just happen to you, take an active part in the process and feel like you have some understanding and control of it all.
This is a great support for men going through this nightmare so visit here often.
