Radiation therapy tips

Hi all.

So I had a radical prostatectomy last year which unfortunately was not successful. PSA levels were doubling every 3 months after the op so was advised to go for radiation and hormone therapy. 4 months into the hormone therapy and apart from night sweats, there have been no side effects. Even no weight gain. Will start a series of 20 radiation therapies next week and just need to know what to expect as side effects. I hope to continue working throughout - I work from home so no physical activity. I hope to continue playing tennis to keep my weight under control. I read that I should expect some tiredness, rectal pain, increased need to pee and incontinence issues. Also, if any of you have gone through this salvage radiation, did it work? Any tips or advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi, Steve.

I'm sorry that your RARP was unsuccessful.

Me and a mate of mine had the same surgery at the same hospital as yours. He had his 6 months before mine in Sept 2022. He is also having to have salvage radiation therapy, and is starting about the same time as you.

I'll keep you updated as to how he finds the additional treatment.

His treatment runs over Xmas. Only yesterday, we were discussing whether the hospital would be fully operational over the festive season.

Best of luck, mate.👍
