Waiting on results

User

I had biopsies of the prostate taken on the 22 October and these were discussed by the MTD team last week and now waiting on an appointment to find out the results. No one will tell me anything over the phone. They said that I should recieve an appointment for next week or the following week. I am finding the whole situation really frustrating as it seems that no one will take to me about my situation from the team. This all started in June of this year when I had a raised PSA level they 8 weeks later a MRI scan and the 6 weeks later the biopsy. Is this not too long to wait for results or am I just being impatient.

Hello again, mate.

Waiting for over six weeks for your biopsy results does seem longer than usual, but I wouldn't read anything into.

I was diagnosed during COVID, my clinical nurse specialist telephoned me with the results about three weeks after the biopsy.

Try not to worry, mate and good luck. 👍

AS seems appropriate in present circumstances

Hi Adrian,

Just checked your profile & seen you have another undetectable p s a, congratulations mate long may it continue. I thought you may have put it on a new post I have been checking but I never came across it.

Anyway worth a quick desertion of the wagon if you haven’t already deserted 😂😂😂👍👍

This article sums it up. Essentially 3+3 is very low risk. However some men take that as I can ignore it, and that is very unwise.

Hi Friely,

Sorry to hear you are having such a long torturous wait. Have you heard any news?

Was diagnosed on Friday prostate cancer early stage. Now considering active surveillance.

Hello again, mate.

Thanks for the update. If you dont mind  telling, what was your Gleason score?

I'm a big fan of active surveillance, so long as it is active, and that you are monitored correctly. Here's an excellent video on treatment options, including AS.

Good luck.👍

Friely.

Sorry about jumping in on your post, that above message should have gone to Adrian.

On your question regarding testing I think your choice of active surveillance is correct, their is significant evidence that 3+3 cancer should not be classified as cancer now.

So as long as you keep up with surveillance many would say that is the way to go.

All the best .

Jeff.

Sorry to ask but what’s the evidence that 3 and 3 is not cancer? Just confused now.

Hi Friely.

That link from Dave is correct & there is many more eminent doctors that share that view.

Like I advised earlier as long as correct active surveillance is followed up that is the main concern.

Of course it is everyone’s own decision on the treatment they undertake ie individual fitness, a persons age, quality of life. There is a bit of evidence showing people are getting over treated & having to go through all the side effects of those treatments.

All the best Jeff.

Dr Scholz, categorically states that true Gleason 6 (3+3) does not metastasize. He states it is a harmless sub type cancer. He quotes research showing that 12000 men with 'pure' Gleason 6 and not one of them metastasized.

https://youtu.be/a0sjUallZQU?si=twhThcYjnoJTIaqQ

I believe his claims. However, the problem is, how can you be sure that you have 'pure' Gleason 6? Biopsies aren't conclusive, they can't guarantee that all cancer cells have been detected. As in my case, more aggressive grades are frequently missed.

The only way, at present, you can be sure that you had pure Gleason 6, is if you've had your prostate removed and thoroughly checked.

What I get from Dr Scholz is, Gleason 6 can grow, can breach the prostate capsule, can cause extraprostatic extension but it cannot metastasize, to lymph nodes or anywhere else.

Yes , and my understanding is that while a 3 does not evolve into a 4, or 4 into a 5 etc there needs to be constant vigilance as  4s or 5s etc  could still pop up elsewhere.
