Hi guys,

I've only just found this group so thought I would introduce myself.

This time last week I was having my prostatectomy after being diagnosed back in August.  Cancer was discovered on both sides of my prostate with one being a gleeson 6 & the other a gleeson 7.

I feel so lucky that firstly the surgeon seems confident that it was contained in the prostate ( will find out in around 7 weeks) but also my doctor does run screening for men over 50 , so i was invited & discovered my psa was suspect.

The journey from high psa to operation was mentally draining & being self employed I took on more & more work to keep busy which exhausted me. I completely missed managed my life at a time when I should have be doing the opposite.

Since the op, I've been in such a better head space & going forward I have new life skills I'm planning on learning.

I have, in the past ran the London marathon for cancer research uk & a couple of half marathons for other charities. I think when I'm back on my feet I may do something again for prostate cancer. Watch this space!!

Great to read sine of your threads.

Well, a week after operation there will be a few issues not yet resolved. Good luck with those! A few lucky folk here were fully continent quickly but with me everything improved over a period of months, and I never got to the stage when I didn't need a pad. (To be honest, one pad a day isn't too much hardship, and even if you sometimes need a second it is easy to keep a spare in a back pocket). Erectile function tends to be slower coming back.

I am sure you will be back running, though obviously you will need to work your way up to long distances.

Hi Kev,

Just wanted to say I hope your recovery continues to go well. Your positive attitude will help you make the most of every day. My husband is much more advanced than you but our days at the moment are almost all good ones so I can attest trying to live with eyes open and purpose.

Thank you.

I know it may not be plain sailing in the weeks & months ahead but i can only deal with things as & when so just being positive for the moment I'm in.

I hope your husband continues on a good path x
