Has anyone been part of the Patch trial or Stampede with the use of oestrogen patches? I've heard they can help with hot flushes.

I haven’t personally been on the PATCH or STAMPEDE trials myself, but I’ve followed them quite closely because I was curious about alternatives to the usual hormone treatments. The PATCH trial looked at using oestrogen patches instead of the standard injections/tablets, and one of the reported benefits was indeed a reduction in hot flushes compared to traditional androgen deprivation therapy. Some men found the patches more tolerable in that respect.

Hi bowlerrespectful, Are you currently on HT and if so which one? was it the side effects which prompted your research?

My husband has started HT. He's on Decapeptyl. It's in my nature to research things. I used to work in Reference and Information and do Local History, it's a reflex action. I found quite a bit on Oestrogen and apparently it does have as good results as ADT without the worst side effects. I didn't go into it a great deal as it's not on offer anyway.  Think US has tried it. It is used in low dose patches for hot flushes. I've concentrated on how to alleviate the side effects. It seems exercise helps a lot. He's doing OK at the moment
