Scared for my 70-year-old father with high PSA, about to have orchidectomy

Hello everyone,

I’m new here, a young guy looking for support. My father (70) is scheduled for an orchidectomy (surgery to remove the testicles) in two days, and I’m very scared and worried.

Here is his situation:

  • His latest PSA level was extremely high at 680.

  • His current treatment: Lupron (Luprodex) injections and Casodex pills, I believe on a 3-month cycle.

  • Despite this treatment, he still suffers from significant bone pain and stomach aches.

  • I am concerned because I feel the medical care in our country is not as advanced as in some others, and I don't know if this surgery is the best or only solution at this stage.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. Any experiences, insights, or support would mean a lot to us during this frightening time.

Hi, Gerry.

I'm sorry that your dad is struggling with prostate cancer,  but it's lovely, in order to support him, that you've joined our club. Welcome to the forum mate.

I know nothing about your dad's current treatment or proposed orchidectomy.

Here's an older conversation, that may be helpful.

There are a couple of posters on here who've had the operation. Perhaps they may make comment.

Good luck.👍

Thank you so much for the warm welcome and for sharing that link. I really appreciate you taking the time to respond and point me toward it.

I will definitely check it out and I'll keep an eye on this post in hopes that some of the members who have had the operation might share their experiences., it’s a big help to have somewhere to start reading. I’m hoping to learn more, especially from anyone who’s been through the operation themselves.

Thanks again for the support and good wishes.

Best,
Gerry

Hi

I was on the 3 monthly injections of prostap3. I hated them as they gave me all sorts of aches and pains, especially in my joints.  As I was told I'd be on hormone therapy for life and orchidectomy seemed an ideal alternative. I had it, don't regret it, aches and pains went and no more injections.  If a sex life is still required I wouldn't have bothered, but that ship sailed with the wife's menopause, so no problem!
